Welcome to the webpage of the School Nutrition and Activity Project (SNAP).
What is SNAP?
This research project is studying the effect of school nutrition policies in Prince Edward Island elementary schools on children’s eating habits and health. This study is important since poor eating habits and childhood obesity are problems in PEI and across the country. What we find out will assist schools and parents across the country, including in PEI, to help children be healthier.
The SNAP study includes four components:
1. An in-class student survey on eating habits and physical activity including height and weight measurements;
2. A parent survey sent home with student consent forms;
3. A Principal School Food Survey
4. A Breakfast Program Survey
We need your help to do this! In the next few weeks, we will be asking grade 5 and 6 students in the Eastern School District and the Western School Board to fill out a short survey about what they eat and how active they are. We will also be measuring their heights and weights, so that we can see if school nutrition policies help prevent childhood obesity.
