About Us
Nutrition policies for elementary/consolidated schools were adopted by all three school districts in 2005/2006. The SNAP research project led by Dr Jennifer Taylor at UPEI and Dr Paul Veugelers at University of Alberta was funded in Jan 2007 by the Canadian Institute of Health Research.
The overall aim of the research is to assess the impact of PEI school nutrition policies on children’s food intake and weight status. We are also interested in the school staff, parent’s and student’s perceptions of the food at school and the policy implementation process.
We have received approval from the Eastern School District and the Western School Board, as well as the UPEI Research Ethics Board to conduct this research from 2007- 2012. We plan to collect food use and height/weight data from students three times over five years : 2007, 2010, and 2012.
